Inflation and Purchasing Power Calculator

“The greatest monetary loss is the one that never appears on your statement. Inflation is not an expense shown on your bank account—it is the silent destruction of fiat currency.”

Calculate purchasing power

Choose either direction. Use the swap button to reverse the years.

What the numbers mean

Equivalent amount
Price-level change
Price-level multiple
Loss of purchasing power

Purchasing power of unchanged cash

Cost of the same basket

The starting basket is fixed at the amount entered above.

Gold and Bitcoin price comparisons

Separate hypothetical USD price comparisons—not measures of inflation or investable-return records. Each asset starts in the selected year or the earliest year available in this version.

What the two figures mean

Equivalent amount answers: “What would the same basket cost in the other year?”

Purchasing power retained answers: “If the numerical cash amount never changed, what percentage of its original buying power would remain?”

Data coverage and methodology
Important limitations

Consumer-price indices describe an average basket. Your personal inflation rate can differ. Year selections use annual-average index levels, not prices on a particular day. Very long historical series join or reconstruct different source periods, so distant comparisons are estimates rather than exact measurements.
